"Expressionistic Chrome" consists entirely of tapeloops made out of casettes that I collected over the years. I usually got all the tape out and started cutting and pasting them, hoping to find that one special loop that carries serenity and contemplation. In this search I found loops that suggested slow static movements, like ships slowly crumbling through seas of static. They fitted perfectly with my experiences of seeing certain paintings at that time, that's how the concept of this album was born. I took certain paintings as examples and created the sounds based on what I was seeing and hearing in the frame.

One of our favorite DIY indie labels is back with a new release to start the year with delicious and colorfully emotional tone colors. Shimmering Moods welcomes Glimlicht, a charming, craft based sonic minimal ambient project which published in complete discretion a few tapes and digital releases. Titled Expressionistic Chrome, this new Glimlicht release is a tremendously hypnotic and looped-based ambient work built on short repetitive fragments, with sombre, eerie and melancholic distorted micro melodies. The whole aesthetic ambience is extremely blurry, opaque, languid, wounded and somnambulic. A sinister, tearful then dreamy like atmosphere prevails all along the album, transporting the listener in a nebulous astral voyage, to the confines of life itself. This is quite an absorbing, isolationist and ghostly ambient release that will ravish fans of William Basinski, The Caretaker, and Philip Jeck’s intoxicating, mnemonic electronic melancholia. Easily recommended.

This is one of the highlights of this brilliant eilean series. I am not a great fan of spoken word releases, but this is atmospheric and gripping. The DVD is a worthy addition to the package.
