about

The title “Field of View” depicts fleeting images of space as viewed through the small portholes of a spacecraft. The viewing area changes constantly as the vehicle drifts aimlessly through the cosmos. Each soundscape represents a different thought a voyager might have as they peer out into the abyss.

“Empty Mind” attempts to create the sonic imagery of becoming thoughtless. With infinite scenarios to imagine, it is often difficult to shut out your thoughts and clear your mind. The song features field recordings from various factories, sounds that represent the transition from thoughtless into a focused daydream.

“Interior” features retro-sounding pads to create an image of the past. Thoughts of what could have been cross the mind, as if gazing at flashbacks through the windshield of a car. A field recording of rain falling on a windshield can be heard throughout the track.

Imagine life at the molecular level. That’s the premise for the song “Lost Particle.” The various noises and pops symbolize atoms bumping into each other. A soft rhythm emerges halfway though, representing the mechanical shapes and functions of various molecules as they pitter about. Our observations at these magnifications reveal chaos, but their lives are controlled by precise functions. What would become of a particle that became lost in an automated world?

“Missing Sequence” features lush filtered chords, and an auto-filter with heavy resonance to create the language of satellites. Drifting through space is never lonely for these drones, as they persistently call out in every direction for their receiver.

The most complex composition of this collection is “One-sided.” It features sounds of rain, complemented by wind blowing pieces of metal about during a storm at my house. Just as a satellite’s transmissions are not always received, sometimes our communications between people are not heard. Various motivations fade in and out, with no actions being taken.

Titled “Trial Run,” this song symbolizes the experience of novelty. It embodies the thrill of exploring the unknown, and inspires curiosity towards the next challenge. A trial run is ran the first time we, as humans, do something, and there will always be more trials to be had.
