« In all such local tragedies time works like a damp brush on water-colour. The sharp edges blur, the ache goes out of it, the colours melt together, and from the many separated lines a solid grey emerges »
East of Eden,
John Steinbeck
It is about the people before them, their work, forty-five surveyors, forests without light and lights in houses, memory and perception of the composer.
The sounds come from the archives of the Atlas Sonore de Vassivière (traditional music, voices and ambient sounds, etc.) belonging to the documentary collection of the oral heritage of the Regional Music Centre in the Limousin, sound recordings made on the premises of the residence and various sources on internet without a value hierarchy. The sound material is fragmented, modified and then r earranged again. into a coherent composition.

Take the shimmering guitars of the Cocteau Twins, dilate and lengthen with the wistfulness of Boards of Canada and release them like one of Robert Rich’s haunting soundscapes with a jazz coda and you have Carlo Giustini's 'Custodi'. It's brilliant. sepulchre19

have yet to translate the song titles so the artist's intentions are somewhat of a mystery to me, but the wavering surface noise creates the theme of a dialogue between music & technology before becoming invisible to my ears. this conjures memories of listening to music as a child (long before the sterility of digital media), when i rarely took notice of the hiss & pops of records, 8-tracks, tapes, & am radio because they were a normal, necessary aspect of recorded sound. nice to be back again.
