Songs for other people began as a compositional exercise aimed at scoring moments from the lives of others. The unseen narratives of daily life, a collage of what it means to persist from year to year. Just as the pieces themselves are slow methodical developments as was the album that came about - culminating as a collection of short stories, disparate and brief, of other people's lives interpreted through the inseparable viewpoint that can only be one's own. As much as the album is about other people it is about the author's lens.

The instrumentation is varied but cassette was a central character in both medium and process.
