about

Last summer, the number of new cases of COVID-19 in Japan showed a downward trend. The declaration of a state of emergency in the country was lifted, and the government-led "Go To Travel" campaign (a word with incorrect grammar but easier to pronounce for Japanese people; Support measures for the depressed tourism industry. We were able to travel domestically on the cheap.) was launched. My wife and I visited Hagi City in Yamaguchi Prefecture and Izumo City in Shimane Prefecture. Both cities are rich in history and have many world heritage sites, as well as many myths that have been passed down since ancient times.

While I was enjoying a short trip after a long absence, I felt as if the atmosphere of the old towns, shrines and castles were inviting me into the mythical world.

Shimane Prefecture in particular is known as the "Land of the Gods," and the Izumo Taisha Shrine in particular overwhelmed me with its scale and ancient history.

I may have visited these places without thinking, hoping that the COVID-19 that is spreading around the world will be brought under control. And perhaps this trip was trying to teach me how to overcome this difficult situation.
