Dennis Young is best known as the marimba player and percussionist for Liquid Liquid, a trend-setting early 1980's NYC band whose song "Cavern" was used by Grandmaster Flash & Melle Mel in "White Lines".
Dennis Young is a self-taught musician who started playing drums at an early age. His curiousity led him to other instruments that include marimba, percussion, keyboards, guitar and vocals.
Young composes his own music, which combines influences from rock, jazz, dance, electronic and world music while incorporating unique rhythms and colorful musical textures.
"Voyagers" was recorded in the 1990's at my home studio in Edison, New Jersey. The music was recorded & mixed at the time on a 8 track ADAT machine. I played a number of analog synthesizers including E- Bowed Guitar on " "
This was the last electronic music recording I did before going a completely different musical direction. Fast forward to 2020 I still owned the ADAT machines & cleaning out my closet I found the recordings from that period with the most beautiful music on it that I did not even know I had! I decided after listening to it that one day I was going to get this out to the public.
By luck Danny Lane( a Shimmering Moods artist) found me on Instragram and thru him introduced me to Paul at Shimmering Moods who after listening put "Voyagers" on his label for all to enjoy!
The story behind concept of Voyagers" is based on the series of books I read by Anna Hayes (Ashana Dean) called " Voyagers" which tells the history of the planet dating back millions of years thru her channeling with higher ET beings called the Guardians. Also, the front cover I painted back in 2012 while the back cover is me as a kid with the binoculars holding my father's hand as we leave a planetarium. What synchonicity! I must also mention the artwork design was put together by musician friend Brad Kleiman who himself is very talented in music, art and video.
Thanks for listening!
Dennis
